Can anyone tell me why our fire fighters are having to learn Polish, why our streets are being resigned in?
Polish. Why even health and safety signs are being dual language ( English/ you guessed it Polish . Yes sainsburys)? especially as we have a greater Asian community and they seemed to cope well without having having signs changed or forcing the services to learn another tongue. What craziness is this? What loonatic makes these decisions and why can they not be taken back to the asylum , locked up and have the key thrown away?

- I quite agree with you and the money for all these signs and language lessons, probably coming out of our council tax etc
- Well said people like you and me dont get a say in these matters the world as gone crazy
- Because the British government is planning to bring the British people to their knees. You will soon have to agree to a pay cut to keep your job.
- Who's street signs are being changed to Polish? I haven't noticed any. If you are going to post a rant at least include some evidence.
- Because Labour are intent on making us a European State. B-liar sold us out for the chance of a job as President and Brown has his eye on the future after this bunch of Traitors are voted out. They have spent the last decade trying to eradicate any remnants of English national identity and resurrect multi-culturalism under the guise of Britishness.
- if i was a fire fighter i would refuse to learn any other language. if polish people cant speak or understand english they should not be here. i will happily try my best to learn the language of any country i visit. i expect the same courtesy from anyone coming to our once fine country.
- Your right, if we as British went to Poland or any country for that matter, we would be made to learn their language. It seems that in the quest to make Britain multicultural they are forgetting some people... The British themselves... I'm sick and tired of this kind of thing... we are tormented by different cultures to accept them, when in fact they should be accepting our... this entire country has become a slews pit of weird and quite frankly ridiculous laws, bi-laws and regulations... I'm not one for pointing fingers but if there was blame to be placed; two letters... EU
- Its a shame, isn't it. We were a great country. As soon as I can, I'm leaving the mess that this Government has made for us with its "caring" policies.
- The sooner this government is out the better, I hope.
- Its so polish people can understand them
- Goodness, you've got them all out tonight, haven't you? Firstly, you don't provide any evidence for your assertions. But ignoring that .... surely the point of health and safety signs is to prevent accidents. They are not there to make judgments that everyone should speak English. So, pragmatically, if there is a need for H&S warnings to be published in Polish, then do it. Surely it's better than the alternative - non-English speakers having / causing accidents. While not being able to speak English is foolish if one hopes to get on in this country, it doesn't carry a death penalty yet. Serious point - we do too much translation. At some point there has to be an incentive which makes non-English speakers want to learn English. Let's not make their lives dangerous, but let's not remove their incentive to learn English, by translating everything. But where's the harm (assuming your assertion is true) in emergency services knowing some basic Polish, if there is a Polish community in the area. If it saves lives .....
- this is unacceptable if they come to our country (which they shouldnt anyway) they MUST speak our language
- because we are ruled by leftest extremist dropouts, who infiltrated governments and local councils in the 70's and 80's and have an apologetic view of what being English means. God am so mad, have just coughed up another furball....
- being foreigner myself here in UK - I was wondering too, why people are not expected to learn English if they live here. There are even companies that have to rule out internal policies that English is the official language. Brother something is going wrong. And I do not believe that you help people by not pushing them to learn the language of the country they are living and working in. I strongly believe that if you come into a country you have to adapt to the society there and not the other way round.
- In America, it's required that health & safety signs are in English/Spanish. I wonder if in Canada the signs are in English/French. If I'm not mistaken, the Canadians/Canadiens might have been the first with bilingual signs, with USA as second.
