Do you think police should ticket non english speaking drivers?
I believe they should. If they can't speak english, they cant read it so i belive it can be a hazard on the road if they can not read road signs.

- .no
- If they're in America they should speak English, damnit.
- no
- there in america they should speak english
- I don't know how they get a license if they can't speak English ..how do you drive and read the road signs ?
- Not speaking English doesn't mean that they can't read or even recognize what the signs mean. For any non-english speaking driver to drive in this country, they too need to know the signs and how to drive just like everyone else.
- hell no....thats what this country is all about fool....and thats a misconception...
- i think they should be ticketed if they break a traffic law...but not because they don't speak english.
- psh why the hell would anyone drive if they cant read? Btw if theyre to idiotic to learn english then they should be deported
- I agree. I don't think there should be a FINE attached, tho... they should have to go to like traffic school, for basic English.
- Yes they should. They're not any better than the rest of us. Besides how did they get a licenses anyway if the couldn't read the test or understand it.
- WHAT??? of course!!! do you think police should arrest murderers if they don't speak english? the law is the law and irregardless of your language skills, it is your responsibility to know them and abide by them. ignorance is not an excuse. plus, the dmv provides literature in a multitude of languages.
- while your idea makes sense, 1) do they have a drivers license ? which says they know the signs of the road 2) define: speak english - how much do you have to know to "speak english" do people from small towns in georgia or idaho count ? 3) its not breaking the law - ( its not a law ! ) so are we going to start to give out tickets for lack of common sense ? Ps the shapes and colors of road signs mean things too - remember drivers ed ?
- Of course not. That's ridiculous. According to your train of thought any American driving in Europe should get a ticket because he or she can't speak French, German, Italian, etc. etc. You can read read road signs (most of which do not include words) without knowing the language.
- Then they wouldn't have a license to begin with. I'm guessing said ticketed driver may have been less than truthful about their english skills.
- Yes. If you cannot speak or read English you could be a hazard on the road. Several years a truck driver who could not read road signs in English caused an accident resulting in fatalities. Comprehension of written and spoken English should be a requirement for a drivers license.
- no most english speaking american cant speak correctly.
- If they have a driver's license, and have not committed an illegal driving offense, there is no reason for a ticket. If an American tourist goes to Europe, and has a temporary international driving license, he does not need to speak the language of that country. What I'm saying is that a ticket can not be given to a person who has not broken a law.
- Of course. The only problem is that another officer needs to be found that speaks their language so that they understand what's going on. Can be a very confrontational situation.
