What do hazard warning switches affect on a car?

Can hazard warning switches in some makes/models of cars if malfunctioning, cause your brake lights to work intermittently and in some cases not at all eventually? All brake light bulbs and fuses have been checked and are good. There are no obvious signs of wire trouble either. Any ideas about the involvement of the hazard warning switch involvement?

  1. no.you must have a short behind the dash
  2. Hazards are on the same circuit as the turn signals, but not the brake lights. A malfunctioning or "stuck" hazard switch can cause the turn signals to stop working (had one of those in the shop today) but will not effect brake lights. You might try the brake light switch on the brake pedal. If the car is an automatic transmission you won't be able to shift out of Park while the switch is acting up.
