What are the hazards of not having a lease returned from the landlord?
My fiancee and I moved into an apartment 5 weeks ago. We signed a lease and are still awaiting our copy from the landlord. It's a major property management company that just took over the building, so they're blaming the delay on other pressing work. Still, we're getting annoyed with their lack of professionalism. So in that context, what are the hazards of not possessing a signed lease? The only thing I can think of is that we don't have a legal claim against a charge of squatting. But there must be something else.

- there rally isn't any issues IMO. If you think they are shopping the apartment and will kick you out b/c they get a better monthly rental, then that's an issue, but that does not sound like its a concern for you. tba
- It takes five minutes to copy a lease but, by law, you should have signed in duplicate. Get on to them and get it. You need it not only as visual proof of your agreement but so that no changes can be made post signing.
