how long does an ipod touch needs to be charged before using first time?

i just bought an ipod touch 2g and the battery was fully charged but the staff who sold me said i need to charge for 12 hours and when i plugged my cable to computer it shows hazard sign or something on the battery??

1. thats means its charging and dont unplug it... b/c if you unplug it while its charging it could mess up the battery
2. if it looks like a plug in sign that's not a hazard sign, it means its fully charged. it should have been charged once you got it anyway.. Happy Holidays!! =]
